February 15, 201115 yr Ok, so i have the LSI card and it seems to work ok in UnRaid. However, it doesn't do spin-ups/downs or temp (probably all SMART data?) I can find the supermicro card very cheaply (2nd hand) with the cables and bracket. Does the supermicro card offer any advantage? will it do spin up/down of drives and give you temps? both give the same amount of ports. Looking at the manual for the Supermicro, it doesn't say anything about RAID, does that mean i can't use the card to setup any RAID?
February 15, 201115 yr The Supermicro SASLP will spin up and down and passes temperature readings. I suspect the LSI 1068E will eventually spin up and down and also pass temps. I would guess the LSI card has greater bandwidth, but until someone tests them head to head it is only a conjecture. The Supermicro does not have any raid functions.
February 15, 201115 yr Author why do you say the LSI card has a higher bandwidth? (i think its a BR10i or something) pretty sure they're both 4x PCIe cards...
February 21, 201115 yr If I knew a better performing PCI-E SATA card would improve performance of the unRAID box I would buy one. LSI, 3ware, Megaraid, there are many of them and I would love to try one. I tried setting up a Dell test box, which is a Dell Optiplex GX760 computer. Very standard business, but unRAID didn't like it at all. Upon booting it locked up. I would try an alternative SATA card in this test box if I can get it up and running.
