Clone unraid server to another server

Featured Replies

How do I clone my unraid server (85 TB of data) to an identical server (same brand, same CPU, same physical drive sizes, etc.) with a new unraid license?  I want to have 2 identical servers at the end of the cloning.  Then I will setup replication between the 2 servers.  Once cloned, I will locate one server at a different geographic location.

Ideas I've considered is to:

1) setup the same "user shares" on the new unraid server and then let replication do the copying.

2) find software that will create user shares on the new server and then copy data from user share to user share

3) manually copy files

I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has done this.

Best and fast way was copy/clone within same machine, if can't, I will use rsync+nfs transfer thr network.

Thank you for this reply.  I have no space on server 1 to make a clone to move.  As such, I understand your alternative option to be using rsync (via NFS) to clone the "user shares" to server 2.  Is that correct?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, disk share to disk share, also user share to user share, depeds on allocation.

For example, my backup server fill with retire disk, I will use four 6TB disk to backup main server three 8TB disks.
