March 15, 20215 yr Hi friends. I am getting a 20U echo gear rack this week. Looking forward to moving everything to it and cleaning things up. I also ordered a POE rack switch that has 2 uplink ports that I can use. I have my router, patch panel and a 24 port 1 gig switch as well as the cable modem in the garage and the rack is going into a bedroom about 75 feet away. The bedroom now has several devices in it after it became my tinker room when the last kid moved out :). I wired my house a while back with Cat5E with everything terminating in the garage. The bedroom I want to install the rack in has 2 jacks available. The bedroom also has several network devices in it now that I connect to an 8 port switch uplinked to the garage switch - 1 port. Should I simply use both connections as uplink paths from the new switch? Will I see gains versus only using 1 uplink port? One thing to add is I do have a synology DS214 running my cameras in the same bedroom. Should I use one of the uplink ports for that device? I see a number of youtube videos showing that setup for switches with 2 uplink ports. I am thinking that if I do that I can isolate the camera traffic on that switch.
