updated to OS 6.9.1 and now GUI is not available

Featured Replies

I just recently updated to the latest 6.9.1 (from 6.8.something I think, it was not very old), and when I rebooted, the GUI did not come up. I am able to ssh into the server. Here are the troublesome looking lines from dmesg:

db_root: cannot open: /etc/target
blk_update_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0 op 0x0:(READ) flags 0x0 phys_seg 1 prio class 0

Help!

Since you can SSH in, type "diagnostics". This will write a zip file to the flash drive which you can attach to your next post.

This thread covers a number of people having similar issues, although the causes seem to vary quite a bit.  It may be worth a read...

Here you go. Thanks.

BTW, the GUI I am referring to is the remote GUI. That GUI is no longer loading/accessible. The only thing I can do is access the machine through ssh.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is anyone out there? :)

I am dead in the water and would really appreciate some help.

To reiterate the issue, I run headless. After upgrading to 6.9.1, I can no longer bring up the webGUI. I can ssh into the server successfully, but I don't know what to do from here.

Why is the webGUI no longer available?

First off, have you placed the server into a DMZ, or are forwarding ports to it that aren't for specific apps (eg: Plex).

I have forwarded port 22. I don't recognize those external IP addresses. Did they connect to my machine? Should I do something about that?

But, I don't feel that that addresses the problem I have of my webGUI not loading.

Remove that forwarding rule immediately.

If you need remote management, use the included wireguard VPN or other VPN solution with an endpoint inside your LAN.

It's very likely the cause of your issues, you probably were hacked.

OK. Crap. Port forwarding rule removed.

Next, is there a command I can issue to see whether anyone is currently connected like you have shown above.

Lastly, now what?? How can I get a working system again?

Can anyone offer some guidance here, or am I better off starting a new thread?
