February 16, 201115 yr I didn't want to put this in the Bilge forum in fear that nobody would se it but I couldn't really think of anywhere else it belonged...so I chose here. I just stumbled across this cool little utility that allows you to safely stop and swap out SATA drives without having to power down. http://mt-naka.com/hotswap/index_enu.htm This thing is great for instances when you are restoring data. For example, I have just migrated from Windows Vista to unRAID for my MediaServer. I borrowed 7x 500gb drives from my buddy to offload all of my data. Now I can hook up 2 drives at a time and move data. When the transfer is complete, I stop those drives (just like you would with a thumb drive), hook up two more drives, and tell HotSwap to look for new hardware. Easy as that. Hope others find this as useful as I did! John
February 16, 201115 yr Lounge is the appropriate forum for this type of thing. I can see the value in this for XP and Vista, but hot swap functionality is built into Windows 7. I find it funny that the tutorial pictures on that page show them using Windows 7, and their Hot Swap icon is right next to Win7's little green eject icon!
