mickeykool
I plan on buying the TX650 PSU for my 15 drive server. Currently have the icy dock 5 bay case, but the PSU only have 8 molex plugs which the 3 x docks takes 9 plugs. Wondering on if I should get a molex split or get a SATA ---> molex plug instead? I read that going 2 split molex is a no no? Quote Link to comment
Chuck
Nothing wrong with splitters as long as you do not exceed the amperage limit. Another approach is to get a modular and acquire extra molex cables. Seasonic is sending me molex cables for this purpose. Quote Link to comment
NodNarb012
Chuck, how much is Seasonic charging you for the extra modular cables, if you don't mind me asking? Quote Link to comment
Rajahal
The 650W PSU is overpowered for a 15 drive build, by the way. I use the Corsair 500W for my 15 drive builds. As long as you are fine with sticking to green drives, you shouldn't need more than that. Molex splitters are fine too, I use them in nearly every build of mine. I've even daisy chained them in the past, though I try to avoid that whenever possible. Quote Link to comment
