6.9.1 Encrypted 'cache'/'pool' drives

Featured Replies

Isn't there an option to encrypt the new 'pool' devices like the array disks? Maybe i am missing it, but i just created a new pool and the drives are formatted to btrfs instead of encrypted btrfs.

It works with the "Cache" pool and multiple pools are just an extension of that idea so I believe it should work, though I don't use it myself. If you haven't started using your new pool try changing it or see here:

Each individual pool can have encryption or not, just like the array.

Stop the array and go to the pool (cache) settings and change the file system type.

Note: when a pool consists of 2 or more devices, it will always use btrfs.

@bonienl , my cache pool is BTRFS, can I change it by just selecting BTRFS Encrypted without losing any data or do I need to move it off cache first?

Changing to an encrypted option involves reformatting the disk(s) so you first need to copy any existing contents elsewhere.   There is not any in-place encryption of existing contents
