Should I RMA this drive? [solved]

Featured Replies

I have a new precleared WD 2TB EARS that has had the error below twice.  The drive is inaccessible after the error.  If I reboot the drive reappears.  Should I RMA this drive?

You need to run a smart report on the drive.  You can't tell if a drive is bad from looking at the syslog.

First impression is that you may have a bad or loose data or power connection to the drive.

Follow the instructions in the Troubleshooting link in my sig to run and post a smart report to see if the drive itself is failing.

Smart reports and tests showed no issues.  The drive was in an iStar 5in3 drive backplane so I reseated the drive in the unit and it has been fine ever since.  I have since run an additional preclear as well as using it to replace the parity drive.
