May 14, 201115 yr According to the reviews on Newegg, several people have received DOA 2TB Hitachi drives lately. It seems like all HD's are a gamble right now.
May 14, 201115 yr Author According to the reviews on Newegg, several people have received DOA 2TB Hitachi drives lately. It seems like all HD's are a gamble right now. Still have yet to hear of anyone's experience RMAing a Hitachi drive to Hitachi (as opposed to someone returning a DOA drive to Newegg).
May 14, 201115 yr ^^ Yup Plugged mine in last night and it was DOA. Set up the RMA with Newegg, and gong to drop it off tomorrow. Hitachi Yes, Hitachi. But was within 30 days of my Newegg purcahse and just sent it back to them today. I just hope I get the damn drive within the 30 days that I purchased it so I can send in the MIR. Already got fucked out of the first Hitachi MIR for sending it out a few days late.
May 17, 201115 yr My Samsung drive was delivered to the RMA company yesterday, and they've already shipped out a replacement drive. That's great, but I'm leaving town for 7 days tomorrow, and it'll be delivered Thursday so it'll sit on the porch for 6 days And I'm at an apartment, so it's almost guaranteed to disappear.
May 17, 201115 yr Ask them to hold it at the courier's warehouse. I think you may be able to request that. Would UPS actually leave a package unattended? And there's no one in an office at the apartment that can hold it for you, nor a neighbor that you half-way trust?

And there's no one in an office at the apartment that can hold it for you, nor a neighbor that you half-way trust? I had them put a note in my file to always drop off the packages at the door since they used to bring everything to the office without even trying the door. I work from home, and it's a PITA to walk all the way to the office, especially when I've got a bunch or heavy items. We have a friend coming to check o the cat, I'll just have to ask them to come over on Thursday instead of the weekend. It figures, the ONE time I go out of town an entire year I get a delivery. I was expecting it to take them weeks like others have reported, not 3 days.
