HDD doesn't spin up in NAS

Recommended Posts

Hello.

Maybe you can help me.

I've trying to replace old HDDs (WD30EZRX)  to new Seagate Exos X16 (ST12000NM001G) in NAS WD MyBook Live Duo (APM82181 SoC).

One of old HDDs is dead, so i've decided to replace both.

If replaced one of two HDDs (WD30EZRX + ST12000NM001G) NAS starting and working successfully.

It working also if i've booted in mixed configuration (WD30EZRX + ST12000NM001G) and did a hot switch WD30EZRX to second ST12000NM001G.

But with one or two new HDDs (without native WD30EZRX) NAS doesn't start: disks not spinning up.

There is no cold start.

I've read about "3 pin problem" and have cheked voltage in third pin – it is always 0 V.

I've sticked up the third pin – no changes.

Also i've tryed to switch ST12000NM001G into SATA 1.5 Gb/s legacy mode with setting jumper to two first pins – with no result.

I've checked total power: total power for start in mixed configuration is 12 V * 1.48 A = 18 W, PSU gives 36 W.

With 400 W of external PSU NAS doesn't spin up HDD too.

So, new HDD not spin if not mixed with old HDD.

That should try now?
