LSI cards

Featured Replies

My current setup has 8 sata ports (4 sata 2.0, 4 sata 3.0)on the motherboard.  They are currently filled.  In the near future I am looking at grabbing a used LSI card from ebay.  Is it worth the extra paying the extra money for a 9300 series vs a 9200 series card?  What performance difference would you expect to see between the two?

Not unless you're going to be using SSDs or a SAS expander with more than the 8 devices.

I was also considering a Syba/IOcrest SI-PEX40139 since I really shouldn't need 8 more drives in this server.  My current motherboard is an Asrock Z77 Extreme4 which has:

- 2 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots (PCIE2/PCIE3: single at x16 (PCIE2) / x8 (PCIE3) or dual at x8/x8 mode)
- 2 x PCI Express 2.0 x1 slots
- 2 x PCI slots

I assume either card would work fine in one of the PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots (SLI)?

It should, another possible option would be the 6 port Asmedia ASM1166.

Any cards you could recommend?  I haven't had much luck finding any.
