February 26, 201115 yr How much space does audio make up in a movie? I am asking because I am thinking about stripping the audio out of some of my home movies. I do have the option to mute the audio and add in back ground music. I wonder if it is worth it to rip the original audio out of the movie then edit it and add in the sound track.Thoughts.
February 26, 201115 yr It all depends on several factors, audio bitrate and the encoding format being the two largest factors.
February 26, 201115 yr The background music will use the same amount of space as the current audio if it is encoded with the same CODEC. You can use a CODEC that with a lower bitrate but quality will suffer. The current audio could be remove transcoded to a lower bitrate format and then added back to save space.
