Corrupt Flash Drive

Out of the blue last night my flash drive seems to have corrupted. It can still boot to the Unraid login prompt but doesn't require a password and access via web UI no longer works. There are no programs installed in the mnt folder either. Thankfully I had a backup from a few days ago but I'm trying to determine what happened and why. Can anyone shed some light as to why the flash drive was still bootable but for all intents and purposes wiped?
