April 23, 20215 yr So I, like the title says, am getting ready to switch to Unraid from Ubuntu and I have a couple of questions. Right now I have a drive for my tv shows, another for movies, and another for anime. When I set that up on Unraid should I make 3 different shares, one for each, or do 1 big share with all them together? In my head I was at least thinking to do it on 3 different ones as that would be as close to what I already have. Right now I do not have a parity drive but I do plan on getting one in the future. I also am moving various services from my Ubuntu server over to Unraid, some of which are already in a docker and others that are just normally installed. My plan was to install Unraid, initialize my new drive (I got a bigger drive for my biggest library so I can move over without loosing media and I needed a bigger drive), start all the dockers that I am using (plex, sonarr, radarr, etc) and then grab the config files off the old boot drive and paste them into the corresponding spot on Unraid. Would that work? I think it will but a second opinion is always nice. The rest of the questions I have had I was able to figure out on my own. Thanks for any help you can give me.

You can do both, it really depends on your use case and your preferences : Only one share with different type of media as subfolder is simple, that's what I use. On the other end, if you want to control the way files are allocated to specific drives and whether or not to split files from a bottom level directory (for example an album) on different drives, then several shares are probably better.

I think I'll stick with multiple shares that's at least the closest to what I have now, one less new thing to wrap my head around right now. I can always add more drives to those shares in the future too
