Once the unraid server boots up (i.e. off the usb stick), and I'm at the prompt for username and password login to the host, do I actually need to login to get the server to work?

 

If so, then unfortunately I've forgotten my password and user name, so how do I reset it and find out what my user name is for login?

 

I haven't messed with unraid in a while, so can't remember but I thought all it had to do was cycle up and then it just sits at the login but yet is still reachable on the network by my devices.

 

So, I think it may be a network problem.  How do I troubleshoot this?

try username = root, and password = <blank> if you're lucky. If you set a new root password when initially setting up the server - someone else will have to help you out. Good luck.

 

And, yes, it should be reachable even without logging in. try surfing to http://tower to access the management web page.

If it's reachable without logging in then logging in is not my issue.

All I did was the following:

1.  Powered down the unRaid through the console.

2.  Disconnected it from the LAN cable.

3.  Added a new HDD and installed Windows 7 on it, so I could select a dual-boot using the BIOS menu to boot the USB stick (unraid) or Win 7 HDD

4.  Connected it to the same network cable again and made sure it booted to the login screen described above.

 

Now I can't reach it even though it starts up.  Do I need to change one of the unraid usb stick files?  Do I need to restart my router and switch?  I'll try the latter right now, but any help would be appreciated.

When I first built my server, I set the boot sequence in the BIOS to {USB first} and it would boot from the USB drive when a single disk was installed. Once I added a second disk, the boot sequence had to be adjusted again.

 

This might be something to look at but it requires a monitor.

Yes, did that and past that....I can get it to boot fine.

 

However, I can't get it to be accessed across the network.

How can you be sure it's booting fine if the web interface does not load? Have you tried the IP only, not http://tower:8080/ ?

That's how I am sure:  it was connected to a monitor.

 

I figured it out:  there's two network ports (onboard and a separate card), and the unraid server wanted the cable in the card port.

 

My challenge now is that I don't have windows driver for the network card, so I need to find some generic drivers for it.

 

It's a W-tek card:  anyone have any suggestions on where to get a good Windows 7 32bit generic driver for it?
