ASRock P55 EXTREME4: 10xSATA

Featured Replies

Doesn't look like a safe bet to me...

According to the specs the additional SATA ports

are driven by two different marvell based controllers.

One is a 9123 ... based on this it might work.

But it looks like it will only provide 2 ports, one being either internal or e-sata.

The other controller for the next 2 ports is a 9128...can't tell if that is from the same family as the 9123 or if it will work...

Hi

Will this board make it as an i3/i5 setup? It has 10xSATA +1eSATA external so looks like it's ready to recieve lots of drives. Not a bargain at $149, but you save controller cards for a start

This board looks awesome.  The Marvel SE9128 chipset is reported to be working with unRAID here.  I'm thinking VERY strongly on offering it in one of my builds for folks wanting to use the Intel i3 cpu.

- 2 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s connectors by Marvell SE9128, support hardware RAID (RAID 0 and RAID 1), NCQ, AHCI and "Hot Plug" functions

- 2 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s connectors by Marvell SE9123/9120, support NCQ, AHCI and "Hot Plug" functions (SATA3_4 connector is shared with eSATA3 port)

Note that any P55 board will not take advantage of the i3's power saving profiles.  So you'll lose the Atom-like power consumption of the i3 if you use this board.  I would only ever use an H55 board for an i3 build.

That is interesting.  Thanks for the tip.
