drive state is: unknown when running preclear

I have tried to add my two new 2tb EARS drives to the system and when i preclear them the system generates a bunch of errors then says "Unrecognized state, drive sdc, assuming not spinning: drive state is: unknown (Drive related)". i have tried different cables and ports on both MVSAS controllers but they all do the same thing with both drives, i did find that i can put both drives on a slot that is connected to the motherboard port and it does not generate any of the errors. is this normal or is there a fix?

 

i am using unraid 4.7 and have the 4k-aligned enabled with no jumpers on the drives. i am attaching the syslog from when i tried the drives on both MVSAS controllers.
