April 30, 20215 yr I have been plagued by high wait times on one of my unRaid servers. After much searching and trial and error I have narrowed it down. I discovered that there were dozens of hdparm processes stuck in state D (state D is given in the ps command) which is for uninterruptible sleep. The drive that the hdparm command is executing against is a USB external Seagate drive. I removed the drive from the system and rebooted and so far I have not seen the high wait times anymore. Where do I look next? Could it be a USB problem? A drive problem? An hdparm command that the enclosure doesn't know how to handle? Any help would be appreciated.
