April 30, 20215 yr ok let me try to Explain what i wan to do & trying to do ..i have 3 Different server's 2 are Unraid & a i have a Hp Dual port sfp+ nic in my main pc & All Is Working With a P2P set up With no Switch..How ever I Have a 3 an maybe a 4th server i need to get rocking 10gb also i was just wondering if i could still use a p2p type with a switch but With No Internet/Outside access on the 10gb switch Just a Direct attach i think what it would be called ! Every thing is SFP+ 10Gb Nic's & DAC Cables Mellonox & Hp ..Any Ideas/Advice as to if it will work ? ?
April 30, 20215 yr Yes you can use a switch to create the isolated LAN. DAC cable will just connect from NIC to Switch. I had ben looking at The Mikro tik switches & i could Have made due with the 8 port with a small amount of lets call it growing room..But i just Bought a 24 Port Managed sfp+ switch with Rails..i just got a Real Real Good Deal on it..as in less than the 4 port mikrotik (Retired enterprise gear) with Rails.lol. ..sory about the rambling...Thanks for the info !

No worries, I would have to go with Mikrotik if I had switches as all sits in my office, and Network kit can be loud and I won't be popular with other half. I am just in the process of going 10Gb just with DACs between my 3 servers. But have just got a dual 40Gb card also.
April 30, 20215 yr Author oooo 40gb..i want to go 40gb or even 100 at some point but i have like 4-5 home servers total & that would cost a tad more than i would like..lol. I have ben on a 10gb p2p for 3-4ish Years but never had a 10g switch & they are still costly more often than not unless ya just get stupid lucky on a sale(like i believe i did) ! i Think i got maybe 3 Unraid servers an a FreNas/Truenas server and then a Pfsense server & i am always tweeking/tinkering & it would be nice to just add 10gb to any system im working on/with..i have a brother & wife all n the same house & we all have Our own pc's plus all our wireless junk i am the it guy in my bunch ha ha ha i love to tinker & tweek & most of my gear is retired enterprise gear..Supermicro X8dth-6F is my oldest but its just a tank still yet & i cant bring my self to retire it the others are SM X9 & dell R210 II ! im a Tech Horder lmao !
