How to reinstate unRaid after moving files around?

Recommended Posts

I have my unRaid running with all drives formatted and parity updated. Assuming I boot up the unRaid using a(nother) Linux distro and move files around with it (no formatting or messing around with partition tables), what would I have to do to "reinstate" unRaid after that? I think the answer is just to run a parity check, but I'd feel a lot better if someone could confirm this.

I think you could either "Stop the array" and then go to the "tools" page and "Reset array configuration" or

Press the "Check" button on the "main" page to check parity. (I'd expect it to find lots of parity "errors" if you moved files on the drives while the unRaid driver was not in effect)

Both should do the job, but I think that the background check of parity will allow you to use the unRaid array while it does its re-calculation of parity, while the "Reset Array Config" option will have your array off-line until it is finished.
