Quick question I could not find an answer to:

 

Can you copy files to a drive while doing the parity check or does this mess it up?

I just did this myself.  I was rsyncing files to my array from another server.  The monthly parity kicked in, as did the mover script to move stuff off the cache drive.

 

I didn't have any problems with all three processes running at the same time, other than they ran longer.

You can use your array as normal during parity syncs and parity checks. The only effect it will have is causing the parity tasks or file copies to take a bit longer because of the concurrent use.
