Parity not valid, multiple errors in syslog

Featured Replies

Today I noticed my parity drive was disabled.  Checked the syslog and there are multiple errors on the parity drive and disk1.  I am also missing data from disk1.  It's kind of weird too that the syslog is only reporting from around 5am this morning.

The array has not been stopped (by me at least) in weeks, and I have done nothing since I noticed the errors.  I only have the syslog as I cannot ssh into the tower.  Every time I try to ssh I get: ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.103 port 22: Connection refused.

I removed a large portion in the middle to cut down the size of the syslog.

If more info is needed, let me know.

Thanks in advance.

OK.  So I was able to telnet into the server.  Ran smartctl  -a  -d  ata  -T  /dev/sd* on the parity drive and disk1.  Both errored out saying they are not ATA/ATAPI devices.  They are however, as one is a WD20EARS (parity) and one is a WD1001FALS (disk1).

root@Tower:~# smartctl  -a  -d  ata  /dev/sda

smartctl 5.39.1 2010-01-28 r3054 [i486-slackware-linux-gnu] (local build)

Smartctl: Device Read Identity Failed (not an ATA/ATAPI device)

A mandatory SMART command failed: exiting. To continue, add one or more '-T permissive' options.

root@Tower:~# smartctl  -a  -d  ata  /dev/sdb
