Gimpy_Magoo
Dual Gaming server build for either two servers or combine into a single. New hardware for Unraid/Windows gaming rig CPU: 3900X MB: ASRock X570 TAICHI AM4 AMD Premium X570 MEM: 32 to 64gb 3200 DDR4 2-4x WD 10tb 2x M.2 1tb 2x WD 1tb SSD 2-3x Zotac 1080ti 11gb Case: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO I'll use this case for gaming rig if I don't combine the media/storage Current hardware used as Media/storage CPU: Xeon® CPU E3-1231 v3 MB: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Q87M-E MEM 32gb DDR3 6x WD red 10tb 2x wd 1tb SSD Case: Rosewill 4U Server Chassis I have two of these and thought about using one for gaming rig if I can attach to main server with 10gb and using thin clients at each remote point for gaming. UPS: Tripp Lite 1500VA Soon to add a 8 battery UPS system from a commercial emergency lighting system and move the above to the router/AP/Switch. Network: Router: Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 4 Switch: unmanaged Cisco 24 (w/three blown rj45's from lightening strikes) I'd get you the specifics but I don't feel like getting up access point: Ubiquiti Unifi Ap-AC Long Range 802.11 B/A/G/n/AC (UAP-AC-LR-US) Soon too be upgraded to a Ubiquity wifi 6 AP. Cabling: mix of cat5e and cat6 Gaming expectations: relaxed gamer who is giving up on consoles. VR with a Quest 2 no higher than 1080p monitors/tv's mostly Skyrim type games The Plan: Add a gaming server to my home network with the ability to have two games or one game with two people, playing via network with thin clients. build start will be next week with any of the above options and another Unraid license Conundrum: 1: Do I build a gaming rig described first and attach to network at the main point of play? meaning in the living room, while the media/storage server located in the rack in separate area of network. 2: Do I build gaming server and use the Rosewill case and install in rack next to media server and access game server using thin clients in the livingroom, bedroom, bathroom (can dream right?) 3: Or do I create one single server using the 3900x build and combine the media/storage with the gaming build and have a single server in the rack? Current plan is to build separate gaming rig in the living room to make VR cable connection easy. I'm thinking this only because I haven't thought of a simple solution for network VR use/play so... basically lazy. Open to suggestions ideas? Encouragements?
