[solved] Problem with 2 x 2TB drives

Featured Replies

*update* - neither drive was usable in a windows system and WDC's tools did not see their own drive. RMA'd both drives.

thks

Hello,

I am having problems adding 2 new 2TB drives to my system. I am using unRAID Server Pro 4.7.

I added 3 other drives at the same time with no problem, I'm hoping these drives aren't simply 'bad' and have to RMA them. I've attached the syslog.

Note, I could NOT start unraid with either of these drives installed. I had to put them in the drive bay when unraid was up. I'm using norco 3x5 drive bays. I have 2 other 2TB drives that work fine in the drive bay I am using for these problem drives.

any advice appreciated!

thanks

Insert the drives and check BIOS to make sure that the USB drive is selected to boot and all others are disabled.

Do the drives show up in the bios prior to boot?

if not i have seen some motherboards that disable the sata ports 5&6.

how many drives should you have? and how many ports?

I was having a very similar problem, I updated my MB BIOS and it seems to have fixed the problem.

I will double check the drives in bios tomorrow, don't have a monitor on that server at the moment and it's a pain to get one over to it lol.

I have 15 drives (inc parity / cache) in the server, these 2 drives are running off a 4 port card that has 2 other drives on it. I have room to try these drives on other cards and/or the mother board as I have a total capacity off 18 drives.

I will check for a new bios too, I'm sure there is one :)

appreciate the help!
