March 8, 201115 yr The 2TB Hitachi 5K3000 drives are back down to $69.99 (free shipping) but now require a coupon code (no big deal) AND a mail-in-rebate (*sigh*). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145475&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL030811&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL030811-_-EMC-030811-Index-_-InternalHardDrives-_-22145475-L0C Coupon Code: EMCKGKB34 Rebate Form: http://images10.newegg.com/uploadfilesfornewegg/rebate/SH/Hitachi22-145-475Feb25Mar1311SL75.pdf Personally...I'll wait. John
March 8, 201115 yr I know rebates suck, but I purchased 3 of these drives when they went on sale and my rebates have already been processed and are scheduled for final processing. So that is pretty quick considering I just mailed in the forms about 2 weeks ago.

So that is pretty quick considering I just mailed in the forms about 2 weeks ago. Good to know, thanks. I sent mine in a week ago. Did they email you when they were entered into the system? Did you send the serial from the anti-static bag? I'd probably rather pay $75 for one without rebate, but Amazon has THE WORST packing jobs out of anyone. For Xmas I ordered a $300 digital camera, and they threw the camera in the box with NO padding. If that were a hard drive it likely wouldn't survive.
March 8, 201115 yr Amazon drives tend to be on factory boxes with data cable, power adapter, and screws. And factory packaging is much better for shipping. I'd pay a few dollars premium for retail drives over bare OEM.

March 8, 201115 yr Ack! There are two threads talking about the same thing! Neither newegg or amazon are shipping retail drives.

March 8, 201115 yr Author The other (Amazon) deal was dead...at least for thr $69.99 price. That is why I started a new thread. John
March 8, 201115 yr Sorry - couldn't tell from my iPhone. Amazon is selling the 3T for $175 retail vs Newegg selling 3T bare drive for $170. (since unRaid doesnt support 3T you have to downsize them to 2.2T and reinflate one Tom puts out the 3T versions). I am thinking to buy one from Amazon.

If that were a hard drive it likely wouldn't survive. So it's not just me! I ordered a set of snow cables and a CD a few months ago. They tossed both loose in a box w/ 0-packaging. Needless to say, the snow cables won that battle. The disc and its case arrived in pieces. HOWEVER, it's hard to beat Amazon's customer service. A politely worded email via their website form, had a response within an hour or so. They told me to throw the CD away, refunded my money, and shipped a replacement UPS overnight for free! I was more than satisfied, but I [did] note their shipping practices in my resellerratings review, and burned up their 'how's our shipping' report feature.

March 8, 201115 yr The one negative about living in washington state is amazon is located here = sales tax. Ugh.
March 9, 201115 yr I *think* we're talking about the Newegg deal here, but I could be wrong. Just be aware that you can only get the rebate for 2 drives. FYI.
March 10, 201115 yr Word to the wise, you must send in the sticker from the static bag or the rebate will be marked as "invalid"
