(SOLVED) 10GBit ASUS C100C / Intel X550 T1 uploadspeed slow / downloadspeed fast

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

i just build and setup my first unraid server (now for almost 7 days) and getting stuck on this problem.

On the same place before was a synology NAS with 10GBit Same switch an cable.

When i download files from the NVME cache Drive i have speeds about About 1,03 GB/s

Same drive upload only about 150-300 MB/s

MTU is 9014

Everything else is stock.

The Upload is from a Windows 10 PC what was working before well with about 900-1000MB/s write Speed to the Synology NAS.

Any Help?

Thank you allready in advanced.

before it was even slower form PC to unraid also at diskshares ...  problem was the installed HyperV ... i had to deselect the bridgedriver otherwise it was 150-400MB/s

I changed from the ASUS to the Intel X550 Card but i'm still stuck at 500-770MB/s but after a few changes the Asus was as fast as the Intel.

Problem is still not solved Still missing performance on write speed to the unraid server.

I'm running out of ideas 😞

Everything is running Cools also ;-)

Connections:

Unraid Server > 2m CAT7 > Zyxel XS1930-10 Switch > 20m CAT7 > Switch Zyxel XGS1250-12 > 2m CAT7 > Windows PC

I used allready a different IP for the Onboard LAN's (1GBit) and for the (10GBit)
I Also tryed different "Switches" Netgear XS508M but didn't changed alot.

It was workling well before i had a Synology NAS 1621xs+ not sure if it was 1,xx GB's but it was something "around 1000MB's"
But don't know if i did Updates or whatever in between since i used it last time with the Synology.

I found the solution ;-)

i think i had maybe a few problems ... because before i had only the 10GBit Connection ...

but now "the last one" was that my 1GBit Connection was also used even if i did open the share with the IP what was dedicated to the IP for the NAS.

What a long fight ;-)

Sure i want to try to explain the problem was

Like i said before i was using only one 10GBit Network Card (No 1GBit Card) what should usually work also!

On the beginning i used the same switch for 1GBit and 10Gbit at the same time ... this maybe made my problem.

Because of some suggestions at this the forum here, i changed that an reactivated the Onboard LAN (1GBit) and gave the

IP adresses the 10GBit had until then, to the 1GBit Adapter this means:

Windows PC got for the 1GBit: 192.168.0.159 (Which was used before from the 10GBit Adapter)

Unraid got for the 1GBit: 192.168.0.111 (Which was used before from the 10GBit Adapter)

My DHCP and DNS Server = Router (don't blame me it's still a Fritzbox ;-) ) This Device had still stored that this IPs have been used by the 10GBit LAN Cards (MACAdress and Name).

This Entries where still there even after i changed the IP's for the 10GBIT Adapers:

Windows PC got for the 10GBit: 10.10.0.159 (Before 192.168.0.159)

Unraid got for the 10GBit: 10.10.0.111 (Before 192.168.0.111)

When i watched the Taskmanager Performance Monitor while transfering files, i could see both lanadapters, the 1GBit LAN and the 10GBit are working (1GBit was working at 100% Load). This was even if i did use the UNC path \\10.10.0.111\downloads both Adapter where transfering at the same time.

After i saw this i deleted all the used IP's and Names (192.168.0.159,192.168.0.111, WindowsPC, srvunraid) from the Router DNS/DHCP (Heimnetz>Netzwerk also the unused connections).

When the 1GB Adapter came back into the DHCP/DNS overview, i chanced the DNS NAME for the 1GBit from "unraid" to "unraid-1GBit" not sure if i had to do this step!
Because the 10GBit was not longer recognized by the router.

So Only the 1GBit Adapters have been recognized by the router now, like it should be.

After those changes i was beable to transfer with 1,15-1,16GB/s and i could see while transfer the 1GBit was not longer used while transfering to 10.10.0.111.

Like i said i'm sure it wasn't only ONE problem.

I had other problems in between like i said above the bridgedriver (improved from 200-350MB/s to about 600MB/s).

Jumbo Frames had to be active (MTU 9014), on both sides.

I found different improvements while i was playing around like disable the Flow Controll at the Network Adapter or Disable Interrupt-Moderation could Improve a little bit the iperf3 Results but didn't help much to fix my Problem.

Asus Adapter was working well for me. i only switched to the Intel X550 because some Guys out there telling they not work well.

They maybe just get a little bit hot while using ... i used a little Fan 40x40x10mm on it this will drop the Temps from about 60 °C to about 40 °C.

I'm pretty sure it will also work with only one Adapter if everything else is fine.
