Looking for a mobo for a 10+ build that supports AMD core unlocking

Featured Replies

I'm working on a build that will start off with 2x10 drive bays. I may want to expand on it later, but for now it will be 10 drives. I'm using a Sempron 145 and would like core unlocking. Id like to keep it around ~$60-70

Required:

Supports 10+ drives

Core unlocking

Preffered but not required:

6 x SATA

USB 3.0

DDR2

These aren't on the list but are on sale at newegg right now, but i would rather spend a little more and get maximum compatability so any recommendations welcomed. And i don't mind buying used off Ebay.

Here is the newegg filtered search with all the AM3/DDR2/6xSATA, most are not available but if anyone can recommend one that will be fully compatible i could search on ebay and other sites for one:

I would NOT get the MSI board, it has an Atheros NIC which tend to not work unRAID very well.

The Gigabyte board would have to worry about HPA so I would avoid them also.

I would look at this Foxconn.  I have not used it nor saerch here to see if anyone has but from an initial look through it looks likes it would work just fine.

This Jetway is known to work with unRAID and one user has a full build based around the board (i.e. 20+ drives)

And last but not least you have this MSI board that should work also.  some have different RAM specs and the like.

Also, why not just get a CPU that has both cores enabled by default?  I personally hate messing with that kind of thing when you can get the dual core for only 15ish dollars more.

Thanks for the information.

You are probably right about the unlocking thing. I just already have a sempron in another system and wanted to put it to use in the unraid and replace it with a better AM3 chip. I think I will just go with a DDR2 board and leave it locked, probably the safest bet.
