Mounting Norco 4224 in a rack

Featured Replies

Hi All,

So I unboxed my new norco 4224 case, assembled my rack, and now am at a complete loss as to how they go together :(. Anyone with experience in this area feel like shedding some light on things?

Do I need to purchase extra rails? The case came with 2 extra L-shaped brackets that I assumed are bolted on to the back of the case and then to the 2 rear posts, but none of the screw holes seem to line up!

I feel a bit foolish asking, but as this is my first ever experience with a rack and 4u server case, I guess I shouldn't feel too bad...

Thanks for any advice!

Cheers,

DB

Thanks! That was helpful. Looks like I may need to invest in a set of Gruber rails :). Any idea what the extra 2 rack ears they ship with the case are for?

Ah ha! Now it's becoming clear! Thanks for the link. That shelf looks a bit pricey, but I think I'll pick up those brackets. More of a pain in the ass to get into the case, but I imagine once I have it mounted, I won't be opening up again unless there is an issue...

Thanks!

PS: Extra rack ears: My bad. I opened the UPS at the same time and mixed up the parts. The extra rack ears belong with the ups  :-[

So just an update. I ended up ordering 2 of these rail kits (one for my Norco 4224, one for the APC SC1000 UPS). Probably won't get them for a couple of weeks, but I will post back when I receive them, as far as fit etc is concerned.

Definitely the best price I could find on recommended quality rail kits. From the [H]ard Forum link above, they seem to be fairly flexible as far as fitting different racks, and people have definitely used them with Norco cases.

You can buy the same model through Ebay, but they are more expensive...

Ah aren't they nice, they even give you a sweetie with the screws.  ;D

Please keep us posted. I've been so tempted to buy a used rack off craigslist, they seem to pop up now and again, but after doing some research and seeing how things can get expensive quickly, it really has to be craigslist bargain to keep things on the cheap.
