Read only file-system

Featured Replies

Hello,

A SNT-SAC3051TL cage I ordered, along with a new WD20EARS, were delivered to me today, and I put the two into my existing box. Unfortunately for me, something has gone wrong. The filesystem on my USB stick is now read-only, and I can't assign one my hard disks (I rearranged the cabling) to its original spot.

I am using 4.7-beta, and my log is attached.

Any ideas?

Also, the two fans on that cage are LOUD. For now, I've removed them, just to see how high the temperatures get. At present, they're about 10 degrees higher than the rest of my disks, but high 30s still seems quite safe. I imagine that I'll have to find some other solution when summer comes, though. An unheated room can only compensate for subpar cooling during the winter months.

Well, that didn't take long to solve. I ran a chkdsk on my USB stick, and that resolved the read-only file system problem. There might be something wrong with my new disk, but at least I've got one issue resolved.

Well, it turned out to be the cable for my second problem. Now that's resolved, and I'm preclearing my new drive. The drives in that cage seem to be getting pretty hot, though. The two 7200s are in the low forties. Yikes. I'm going to have to figure out a way to get a quieter fan in there.

You could try to seal up any holes in the enclosure and then use a couple of larger somewhat powerful enclosure fans to suck air through the cage.
