March 12, 201115 yr I am running 4.5.6 with 17 data drives. I am trying to preclear my 18th data drive and have some issues. I have posted the start of my syslog and the end and cut out the middle. Total size of the syslog is 74.8mb and grew to that size as soon as I started preclearing the drive. This is a brand new WD20EARS with the jumper on. Preclear does not see a valid partition when it starts (first time I have seen this) and it freezes within 1 minute of starting. This is the bottom group of drives on my Norco which also contains my parity drive. Ran a parity check this morning with no issues before I did the preclear. I am also having issues writing to the 17th data drive on the same backplane. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Tower2_Start_2011-03-11.txt Tower2_End_2011-03-11.txt

March 12, 201115 yr None Was this configuration previously working and suddenly stopped working, or did you do something (e.g., add a new controller, add a new disk, dust the inside, etc.) that caused this behavior. From looking at the syslog it looks like the motherboard is not happy with the disk controllers. From prior posts it seems you may have 2 SASLPs on an ASUS P5E-VM DO motherobard? I know my P5B-VM DO has issues and does not support the SASLP in the x4 slot. Wondering if you are having similar issue.
March 12, 201115 yr Author This is my second server that only contains ripped Bluray movies. This server has an ASUS M4A785-V EVO motherboard with 2 - SuperMicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 controllers. Memory is 2 sticks - Kingston KVR1066D3/2GR. The top backplane with data drives 1 -4 are on the motherboard, all other slots are on the SuperMicro controllers including the parity drive. I have used these slots to preclear drives (at least 12) as I added them to the array without issues or to my first server after my issues with the power supply. I did notice that the last time I precleared drives it did take a little longer than normal. After I added the last drive to this backplane writing to that drive (disk17) became slower than the normal 30 MB/s transfer speed. When I tried to write mkv files this week it was down to 5 - 10 MB/s transfer speed. I am using Teracopy on a 64bit Windows 7 computer to transfer to the server.

March 14, 201115 yr Post a syslog that contains a problem event. Reboot so the log is fresh and then perform operations on the problem disk.
