Creating a new USB drive from a backup results in a non bootable drive

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm trying to change USB drives as the one I have will likely fail soon. It has had a corruption issue or similar and would not boot until I erased some plugin files.

The system is booting properly, but when I make a backup and create a new drive from it with the "Unraid usb creator" (MacOS) it will not boot.

If the created drive is made without the "Allow UEFI Boot" option checked, the motherboard does not find any bootable media.

If the created drive is made with the "Allow UEFI Boot" option checked, then the UNRAID boot selection screen will show, but the timeout will reset to 5 every time it counts down. It never actually starts booting, even when manually hitting enter on the boot option, or when trying a safe boot without plugins.

Anything else I can try?

Make a boot drive using this procedure.

See if that drive will boot.  (You will probably have to manually rename the EFI- folder to EFI.)    If it does, make a backup of this drive!

Then copy over the    /config      directory/folder  from the current drive.  See if that will boot.
