[Solved] Need a quick clarification: Bad Disk, removing from array - need parity

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have a parity drive and 5 data disks.  Disk3 just started to go bad and at the same time, I am no longer needing that extra storage, so I don't plan on replacing the drive right now.

I shutdown the server, removed the drive, and started it back up.  Disk3 now says "Not Installed".  When the server is stopped and when I go to the Devices page, it says "Unassigned".

I have no parity right now though.  I want to keep just the 4 remaining data drives with the data that's on them in the system and have parity recalculated.  Do I just run the "Initconfig" command?

Thanks,

Matt

Yes, you need to run the initconfig command to set a new initial configuration based on the remaining 4 disks.

When you subsequently start the array, a new initial parity calculation will begin.

I thought that was correct.  Just needed a little assurance!

It seems to be working.  Parity is recalculating now.

Thanks again, Joe - You're the man!
