March 15, 201115 yr Thought you guys might be able to help me with this issue before I start trying to implement Mysql on the unRAID. Here is the thing, I have 3 identical Zotac zBoxes HD-id11. All are setup with the same SSD drives and memory. And all had been setup using the same CD to install XBMClive, (original was Beta 1), and have progressed to Dharma 10.1 as different releases came out. All of them work wonderfully, sure little issues, but definitely doing what I want. And all of them have access to my network stored movies, no issues connecting to the internet or playing movies. My problem is, that since the very beginning, I have not been able to access one of the three. Meaning that, I can’t Telnet, Putty, Web interface, or Network discovery with Windows Vista. The only way that I can access this unit, is to hook a keyboard to it and Console in (Ctrl-Alt-F2). The other two, I have complete access to. My router can see all 3 of them on my wired gig-network. And I have set up everything on my router with the “reserve DHCP”. Everything gets the same Ip address no matter what, so I don't think I should be having any conflicts there with that. I have tried doing a complete reinstall on the unit a few times, but always with the same ending results. I would just like to be able to see this unit on my network with my Windows Vista computer, and be able to access the userdata, logs and such. Not sure what I should do or look at from here. Help in resolving this would be greatly appreciated. __________________ (3) Zbox HD-11 w/XBMClive 10.1 / Sanyo Projector / Sony LCD / Vizio LCD
March 15, 201115 yr So, if you try to telnet using putty, does it come back and say that the host cannot be found?
March 15, 201115 yr Author That is correct, it doesn't find it. I am not at home, so I can't say at this time the exact message returned.
March 15, 201115 yr So, I assume that this unit is able to stream movies/music fine? The problem only exists when trying to remotely manage it? First thing I would try is to delete the reservation from your router, let the XBMCLive system in question get a new IP, and try to connect to that. Maybe the router is holding some bogus info in the reservation. John
March 15, 201115 yr Author I will try that tonight. I have had it setup this way from the beginning, so maybe that would work. It would be great if it is that simple. Thank you.
March 16, 201115 yr No change, still can't access it. Hmmmm...start to eliminate things. Start with HW. Different patch cable (or is it wireless?). Different port on router/switch. I am assuming that the ZBOXs do not have expansion slots so you cannot use a PCI NIC, correct?
March 16, 201115 yr Have you tried swapping its location with another working unit (and leaving everything else exactly the same) and seeing if you can telnet into it in its new location (and conversely, see if you can still telnet into the previously working unit). Should at least help to eliminate a few potential physical network-type possible problems... Also, a long shot, but have you confirmed that all BIOS settings are identical (Can't see what kind of BIOS setting would disable telnetting etc, but it sounds like you've tried all the logical things already...)
March 16, 201115 yr Author Sorry, I didn't have time to elaborate on what I did last night, but do now. I am running a wired network. Last night I did switch cables and ports with one of the units that does work. Problem remained with the problem unit. There are no expansion slots, so can do that. Not sure what step is next. I've been trying to search issue similar, with little results. What I thought I would do tonight is compare some things with working and none working units. So far, from searching, I come up with these things to look at: /etc/hosts /etc/hostname /etc/samba/smb.conf /etc/xbmc/live.d ip.config ? and from last post, I will check the Bios Thoughts about the above plan, or any other ideas of what to try would be appreciated
March 17, 201115 yr Author I have it working now!! I tried to view sudo nano /etc/samba/smb.conf And it did not exist. So I did a find for samba, and there was nothing. For some reason, this one unit, when doing the original install, never got the samba installed. Not sure why, I used the exact same disc to do my install on all 3 of them. I now have it install and can now see it in my networks with full access to it. Thanks very much for the help with this.
