The drives are: 3 x 4TB 2 x 5TB 2 x 8TB I want to buy 2 x 12TB and copy all the Data from the Synology to these. Then I will build the Unraid server with (1 parity drive): 2 x 5TB 2 x 8TB Copy all the data to it and then add the 2 x 12TB drives. I’m going to sell or bin the 4TB drives as they’re very old and I want to reduce my drive count. Am I missing anything? Am I able to go add the 2 x 12TB drives? My understanding is the parity drive must be equal to the largest drive on the array. Can I just add them and the system will reallocate the parity drives by itself? Cheers! Quote Link to comment

You want your Synology(sp?) for backup. Build new and backup to old. If you do as I say, and your not already 79 years old, you'll be happy you "listened" (read). I should have mentioned that it will be on the same hardware. The Synology at the moment is running on regular hardware using Jun's Loader. 1 Quote Link to comment

If budget allows, find a way to make a new machine while the "old" one fills the needs of "family" doing stuff. I wish you the best, but I know nothing of sinology NAS. 6. Quote Link to comment
