Can I change the High-Water mark?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm new to unRaid but have to say, so far I really like it. Just one questions about the High-Water allocation:

The Manual says

The initial high water mark is set to the 1/2 the size of the largest disk
, now question is if I am able to change this initial value?

I'm currently using 5x 2TB Drives and this initial value would mean every disk would be filled up to one TB before the next one is used. I would rather set this value to 1/4 so it will spread the data earlier over the drives.

Not that I know of. If you really must have it that way then set the method to fill-up and then set the minimum free space to 1.75T free. You will have to increase the min free setting when the last disk is close to full or transfers will fail. You could also just use most free and let the disks fill evenly.

Exactly why do you think the high-water method is not suitable?

not suitable isnt the right term I think. It will work for sure and I can live with it, was just wondering if the is a way to change it. Thanks for the awnser anyways :)

Since all the disks are the same size, couldn't you use MOST FREE as your allocation method?

This would keep all the disks (since they are the same size) evenly spread out
