July 12, 20215 yr I recently bought 2 new 6tb drives. I added them to the array and one 6 tb drive is set for storage and the other is set for parity. It wont let me start the array even though the total drive space is equal. I attached the basics below
July 12, 20215 yr Community Expert Also you cannot add a parity drive and a data drive at the same time (not sure if you are trying to do this), - it has to be done in 2 steps.

It isn't. Each parity disk is independent and contains none of your data. Parity by itself can recover nothing. Parity PLUS ALL other disks are required to rebuild a missing or failed disk. In the case of dual parity, you can recover up to 2 missing or failed disks at the same time but all the other disks are still required.
