NORCO 4220 OR 4224 in Middle Atlantic ERK Rack

Featured Replies

Hello - I'm about to take the plunge to build my first UnRAID server with a Norco 4220 or 4224 case.  However, since I'm heard various problems with getting this to fit in some enclosures, I wanted to find out if there may be any potential problems with fitting it in my rack.  I have a Middle Atlantic 40 space ERK shelf, 25" depth (http://goo.gl/iVW27).  These only have front rack rails and not typical posts as in most server enclosures.  In addition, they also don't have square screw holes, but rather round holes for 10-32 screws.  I can purchase additional rear rails if necessary, but that doesn't solve the potential problems of getting the Norco to fit.

Has anybody used these cases with Middle Atlantic ERK racks?  There seem to be rails that go with the Norco on NewEgg, but would these potentially make the case too wide to fit into the rack?  Any thoughts, or advice on where to obtain the proper parts to get this to fit would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi, first off i don't rack so can't qaulify all this but I have the norco 4224. I believe with the rails (usually the way to go) it will fit a rack. The issue usually is with the length of the case. It is longer than most small racks. You'd probably need 4 posts as well as the case is bloody heavy.

Yah, I would love to find a solution before I actually buy the rack as it would be expensive to return.

That's me! :)

I haven't actually solved my problem yet, as I am waiting on some potentially free rails from a connection who sells servers for a living...

If those don't come through, however, the links the kind people of this forum provided me give 2 options for mounting the 4224. The Gruber-type rails from the first link (Thanks jamerson9!), or the standard Norco brackets from the second (Thanks d60pdp!) link.

One concern I might have with your specific rack is that the 4224 is 25.5 inches deep, so if your rack is 25 inches, it may be too short... unless the case can stick out the back a bit.... As far as the shape of the holes, I'm sure I came across round instead of square server hardware in my travels. Check out some of the links from [H]ard Forum. There are some good e-tailers listed...
