March 18, 201115 yr Updated my server to 4.7, and hello unheard of HPA issues. Never had any issues with this board to date and my server has been running fantastically. I regret updating. I made a new topic instead of bump extremely old ones. My third drive is showing a slightly smaller size, therefore not letting me start the array. Search results led me to creating this topic. I've tried updating the motherboard BIOS, but I don't know how to tell if HPA is disabled or if my rev version (1.1) even allows it to be. I don't see anything about saving the BIOS other than when flashing a new BIOS in their Q-Flash utility. I had no problems on my previous version of unRAID, but it's obviously a problem now because I can't use my server. I saw posts of using hdparm to remove the hpa partition, but I'm assuming this is just going to keep happening and coming back to haunt me? Very unhappy with Gigabyte as of now. EDIT: Also if it comes down to needing to replace this board, is it possible to RMA the board for a newer rev that can disable HPA by default? I got this board in 09, it's supposed to have a 3 year warranty.
March 18, 201115 yr I'm pretty sure the newest models of that board had a BIOS that turned-off the HPA. It's not called HPA or referred to as HPA in any form. Try in the Advanced BIOS Features and look for "Backup BIOS Image to HDD" option. You may have to use <ctrl>F1 which opens up some advanced BIOS options. Peter
March 18, 201115 yr I had the rev 1.0 and the latest BIOS does not have abilities to turn this one off. However there is a poster here with rev.2.0 and he claims that it is off by default. If you send this one for RMA I do not know how they will proceed but be aware that in the latest revisions (from 4.0 onward) you will have only four SATA ports.
March 19, 201115 yr I have rev 2.0 of this board with BIOS version FC and HPA is off by default. On my board, the HPA setting is labelled "Backup BIOS Image to HDD" and is found under the Advanced BIOS Features menu.
