Windows 10 VM with gpu passthrough boots to black screen

So I've watched the SpaceInvader videos and am following them. This is my first time experimenting with VMs (got my Linux VM going fine, Windows 11, and a Windows 10 through VNC). My questions are as follows:

  1. I was using Splashtop to access my W10 VM before I passed through my gpu. Is that the same way I should access it now? (since there isn't a VNC option anyway)
  2. I am using an Intel i7-4790k with an EVGA GTX 2060 KO Ultra. I made sure they were separate and I was passing through video and audio separately, as well as going in and marking the xml code with multifunction='on' per SpaceInvader's video. What am I doing wrong? When I connect through Splashtop using the same vm ID as before (when it was VNC, prior to gpu passthrough), it just displays a black screen with 4 blinking dots in the center in the formation of a small square.

Any help at all is appreciated!

Yes

Screenshot?

Can you attach a monitor to the gpu?does it work on the monitor?

Maybe you need a virtual monitor (hdmi/dp/vga dummy plug) if you want to run it headless?

Hi ejss (or anyone else who might be able to help),

Were you ever able to get your issue resolved?  I'm having the same situation.  I have a PNY RTX A4000 GPU I'm trying to pass through to a Windows VM.  Like you, I've watched and followed all of the SpaceInvader videos but wind up in the same place - black screen with 4 white dots flashing in the middle.

My hardware specs are as follows:

CPU: Threadripper 3970

MoBo: ASUS Zenith Extreme Alpha II

RAM: 128GB

GPU 1: AMD Radeon Pro W5500 (slot

GPU 2: Nvidia RTX A4000

So far, I've created the VM with VNC and it installed and booted up just fine.  I added the virtio drivers (but left the display driver as the built-in Windows Basic Display).  I installed Splashtop, shut down the VM and changed the graphics card to be the Nvidia card.  I did load the vbios and the sound card from the GPU (following the instructions from the SpaceInvader video).  I saved and then started the VM and got the aforementioned black screen with the four blinking dots.

I've attached the log from the VM as well as a screenshot (if you look real close, you can see the four dots)!  Any thoughts/insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

Hi, yeh. Me too. Splashtop seems to work perfectly fine on all my other computers, but not this one nVidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super comes up with black screen. If I unplug the hdmi cable from the output and plug it back in, it resets somehow, and then it will come up the next time I run Splashtop. My other computers don't even need a monitor connected to the computer. They work fine anyway. Be nice not to have to have the monitor running (or even connected). Tried updating the drivers for the video card. Nope. Hmmm... any tips appreciated here. Peace
