No Sound Output on ANY LINUX VM - Is there a fix?

Recommended Posts

Im at a bit of a loss as to what to do here.

The sound works great on Windows 10 and 11 vm's with gpu passthrough.

I have a GTX1050 Ti and I also have the onboard AMD sound enabled in the VM and am using that for the sound and not the GPU audio.

Like i say, works a treat on WIN VM's.

On POPos both sound devices show up in the settings.

I can select them both as well.

When i 'test' the sound in settings there is nothing but silence [yes i have checked my speakers]

lspci -v show the below for the devices -

If im right - looks like the kernel module and drivers are incorrect?

If so, how do i fix this.

thanks.

no, they are correct, it can seem a "conflict of interest" but the driver name is correct.

Looks like a kernel bug in your linux vm, just search for matisse audio gigabyte no sound and you will find different results in google.

What kernel version are you running in the linux vm?try with >=5.10 if you are using an older one and update all the packages, or try with kernel <5.10.

Can you change the jack output (from rear to front panel)?

ok, so ...

it turns out i do have sound, but not as i want it.

I dont have sound on splashtop. Its not a deal breaker for me but would be handy.

I have a hdmi cable from my passed through gpu to one hdmi port on my monitor - when im on that port the sound works fine, which i suppose makes sense.

Just need to figure out why there is no sound on linux via splashtop.

Im going to guess its to so with the splashtop streamer now rather than the hardware.
