HDDS that can run on 1 PSU cable.

Hi All,

I am very new to unRAID and just recently decided to put a homelab server / media server / NAS together using unRAID. I just got a RSV-L4412 case. The hot-swap bays of the case take 2 molex connectors each supporting 4 HDDs, in total there are 6 molex connectors to the total of 12 HDDs.

I got a new PSU for this project, the Seasonic GX-650 PSU. I was thinking of using 1 SATA power cable, and using SATA to 2x Molex splitters to go to all molex power inputs for the HDDs.

I was trying to find specs of the wire ti see if this is OK, but can't seem to find it online.

Any thoughts if this is fine?

Thanks!

I have 12 drives powered by a backplane which uses 3 molex as input. I wouldn't feel comfortable running more than 4 drives off one header. Had a friend running 6 drives off one header in a non-unraid setup, and he kept getting drives dropping out of his raid array. Turns out that putting 3 on a separate header solved the issue.
