manu.bocquet Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 I have to upgrade my actual Unraid server (Intel Xeon CPU E5-2670v3) Usage: Linux VM / Docker / Kubernetes I run around 10 linux VM (Centos) (for my clients [use : postgresql/mysql/nginx/elasticsearch/etc..]) and Kubernetes for some tests I don't use GPU passthrough. (only linux servers/VM) I don't use transcoding. I don't play game on this system / no Windows OS Actual Disks: Parity 6To + 3 x 6To + 2 x 4To (all WD Red) I search a very stable solution (cpu/motherboard), I consider 2 solutions: Will have minimally 64Go of RAM. Solution 1: CPU: Intel Core i9-10900K Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z490-E ?? or Gigabyte Z490 AORUS ELITE AC ?? Solution 2: CPU: AMD RYZEN 9 3900X Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming II AMD AM4 ?? or Asus ROG STRIX B550-F (no wifi) ?? GPU: ASUS GeForce GT710 ?? something cheap with a fanless graphic card.. only use for unraid installation and bios configuration. Can I have some recommendation ? Thanks, Quote
juan11perez Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 I've been running 3900x with rogstrix470f for over 18 months with no issues. arch vm, windows vm, mac vm all run well plus 45 dockers. Quote
manu.bocquet Posted July 25, 2021 Author Posted July 25, 2021 Thanks Juan, Did you set some specific configuration (unraid or bios) to get it work with your ASUS ROG Strix ? What GPU do you use ? Quote
juan11perez Posted July 26, 2021 Posted July 26, 2021 Welcome Nothing in particular other than enabling iommu and smv in bios. I have 3 cards: Nvidia 1650, rtx saphire 570 and nvidia 1050ti. First 2 for vms. Last one for hardware acceleration. Quote
