Sas backplane mounting advice

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have been given some of these sas backplane for pretty much nothing. I want to mount them in a rackmount case and use it as a "fake jbod". My two questions are:

Looking at the picture there is only two mounting holes. Would I short circuit the board if I screwed two screws in the none mounting holes on the other side.

And

Any suggestions what I can do to make some kind of support brackets for the hard drives. I want it to be like the storage pods where I just place them in vertically but I have no idea the best way to create some support for it, I originally thought ply wood with loads of holes and fans mounted to allow for good air flow but was worried that it might erode or burn with the hdds heat. I've never tried working with metal so don't really want to be cutting sheets of aluminium.

Any help would be appreciated!!
