[SOLVED] Mixed drives and 4k

Featured Replies

After looking at different storage solutions I decided to give unRAID a try. I currently have 2 WD20EARS that i plan on jumping pins 7&8 so I can use the MBR: 4K-aligned setting but I also have a Hitachi Deskstar 7K2000 that i believe is not a advanced format compatible drive.  Can I still run the Deskstar in the array with the 4k-aligned setting or will I run into problems or bottlenecks with this setup?

If you're going to use the MBR 4K Aligned, DO NOT JUMPER the EARS! You want one or the other, NOT BOTH at the same time.

All drives are fine running MBR 4K-Aligned except JUMPERED EARS.

Exactly, use the 4k aligned setting and DO NOT jumper your EARS drives.

Thanks for the info. I was a little confused with all the posts about that.  Im formatting the drives as I speak, once I have some data on them I think I will Pull a drive and replace it with a blank to see if it will rebuild, (just for peace of mind) ive never fully understood parity, and just need to personally verify that my data is really going to be safe.
