Read Errors found in new (<3 mo old) HDD

Featured Replies

I just now got a Warning message from my server that my array has errors. However, it only lists it as a warning, and I just ran a SMART test on that drive and got "Completed without error." I'm not sure what, if anything, I should do about this. I sure would hate to have to replace such a new (and expensive!) drive.

It's logged as a disk problem, but in LBA 0 which is strange, still should run an extended SMART test, if the test passes swap cables/slot with another disk to rule that out.

Ok, I'm running an extended test now.

The extended test just finished and looks like there's definitely a problem.

I'm not exactly sure what this means. Is it most likely a problem with the drive or with the connection?

with the drive

I'm going to try RMAing the drive. With 2 parity drives, am I okay to just stop the array, pull the drive out, and start the array again with that drive in emulated mode until the replacement is here?

  • Community Expert

Any access of disk15 will require reading all other disks to emulate.

  • Author

What would be the best practice, then?

  • Community Expert

Should be fine but some performance impact from emulation.
