Disk errors

Recommended Posts

I am hoping some of you more experienced people can assit with my next steps.

I feel my array is not to healthy, i also have had the tick option enabled to "Write corrections to parity" which i have now read i shouldnt have done. I did noticed the bad sector count but after two power cuts recently i got notified of more issues.

If i need to replace the disks is a rebuild possible, should i backup some data first incase it fails?

What order should i resolve the issues? I have two spare drives ready to go.

thanks

Parity disk need to be replaced, disk5 is also showing some issues, see if it survives the parity sync.

Should i run a parity check before replacing the parity disk. These are the last two recent scans

Is it a case of following this guide when installing the new parity disk.

You don't need parity swap procedure. In fact, parity isn't trustworthy enough to attempt parity swap procedure.

Just shutdown, replace parity disk, double check all connections, reboot, assign replacement to parity slot, start array to begin parity build.

You should setup Notifications to alert you immediately by email or other agent as soon as a problem is detected, instead of letting things go until you have multiple problems and possible data loss.

You must always have another copy of anything important and irreplaceable. Parity is not a substitute for backups.
