March 22, 201115 yr Hi, I just upgraded from 4.6 to 4.7 and now my unraid server fails to boot. The relevant lines of output: VFS: Cannot open root device "<NULL>" or unkown-block(8,1) Please append a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions: Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unkown-block(8,1) Pid: 1, comm: swapper Not tainted 2.6.32.9-unRAID #8 Call Trace: [<c1024539>] panic+0x3f/0xda [<c13f5b62>] mount_block_root+0x1df/0x1f3 [<c1002931>] ? syscall_call+0x3/0xb [<c107514d>] ? sys_mknod+0x13/0x15 [<c13f5be3>] mount_root+0x6d/0x75 [<c13f5cfc>] prepare_namespace+0x111/0x138 [<c13f5582>] kernel_init+0x158/0x167 [<c13f542a>] ? kernel_init+0x0/0x167 [<c100339f>] kernel_thread_helper+0x7/0x1a I really hope there is some way to fix this. Thanks! Matthias
March 22, 201115 yr Have you been using the flash drive with versions previous to version 4.6? You make need to run the latest version of syslinux on the drive. It is included with the 4.7 distribution.
March 23, 201115 yr Author Hi, I followed the upgrade procedure so I don't think this is the source of my problem. If you are currently running unRAID Server 4.6 or higher, please copy the following files from the new release to the root of your Flash device: bzimage bzroot
March 23, 201115 yr Author I started using this particular USB stick around May 2010 after my previous USB stick failed. Tom quickly sent me a new license for it.
March 24, 201115 yr Author Ok, I copied the 4.6 files back to the stick and the server boots fine now. I guess I'll try a different update procedure when I have the time to. Bye Matthias
