I finally got all of my drives installed and started building up more data and making changes here and there. Now all of sudden I have ran into some kind of permission thing that I cannot figure out. Let me explain what I think happened and then you tell me how bad I screwed up.

I think this started after I tried to rename a share. Eventually I noticed that it actually created two folders on the disk but was only showing the one share in the interface, I guess it created sym/hard links. The remaining files left on the original share I moved over to the newly renamed share and everything seemed fine at first but now I am here.

 

Troubleshooting:

From windows or linux both, I cannot view any files within the bottom level of the folder structure. At first I thought this was just a permissions issue so I searched and found the New Permissions setting within the web interface and ran that, multiple times now. This did not resolve the issue and I have ran it multiple times, I have verified the group/user to be nobody/user how it supposed to be and the rwx were set correctly (copy/pasted from ls -l results drwxrwxrwx  2 nobody users ). Next I found where people are specifically having issues with Win10, I tried finding edit policy settings but win11 it is missing, good job MS. I also tried adding a new credentials like the end of that post suggested and this did not change anything. I then thought if it is just windows then screw 11 I will wipe my laptop, I first tested from a VM to try and browse the folder structure all the way down to the files and I could not in linux smb share from gui either. I am however always able to view the full folder structure but only folders nothing within them unless it is more folders. After many days of going back and forth with this issue I finally thought that I really did screw up and finally, last ditch effort, copied a file to a second disk by creating a new share and forcing it on the other disk and tested the new share function. It worked success but wait I don't want to restructure and copy/move everything and have to resetup plex and all that. Oh by the way I forgot to mention Plex is able to read these files and I am able to view them from the terminal of unraid. The unraid server can see them and the files are there but it acts like they are gone when trying to browse them under the smb shares. Also other shares are not affected like this only the share that was renamed.

 

My question is, do I have to move everything or is there an easy way to fix this? My google foo has run out because of my limited knowledge of linux. Please help

This fresh copy of the log should show that I was able to access some and in multiple folders. I was able to create/move/edit in both win and terminal of unraid.

More detailed notes regarding what is happening. I have attached a log and transcript of commands ran to duplicate the issue. 

 

First I use the following command to copy the full directory to a separate share separate drive. I test by trying to open the share, that I am able to browse on Win10 and I am also using Ubuntu 20.10. I see the new folder but get the general message about the file possibly being moved or deleted, Ubuntu 20.10, with a similar message, but the single file moved works.

Then I run the following command that moves a file in the folder I moved above and moved to the same temp folder.

root@morty:/mnt/disk1/media/pictures# cp -Rv phone/Samsung\ SM-G973U/Camera/20210719_211501.jpg /mnt/disk3/temp/

 

I saved the transcript of commands to confirm, around 0808 pm CST. The diag log was exported shortly after, the time stamp is in the file name.

 

Lastly the file permissions of the files described above.
