March 24, 201115 yr Hi, I've installed unraid 4.7 and configured it, but the shares are not visible in mynetwork, explorer or totalcommander. Pinging works fine, web browser access also. Workgroup settings have been checked and are the same, mapping directly to the IP-adres of the server doen't work either. Who has a solution for this problem ?
March 24, 201115 yr Author I finally have the share visible. I had to activate the "user share" (without minimum one user share, there is no mapping or browsing possible) and then I can finally map the shared volume (only through IP) with the net use driveletter: \ip\user share command function. Question is this related to the 4.7 unraid version, or another windows related malfunction.
March 24, 201115 yr I don't think it is a malfunction... unless I completely misunderstand what you where/are trying to do. If you want to connect to a share that spans multiple drives (UserShare) then you have to enable that feature in unRAID. If you do not the only thing you can connect to is the each disk in the server (i.e. \ip\disk[1-*]
March 26, 201115 yr Author Not exactly, the problem was the following: After setting up correctly the unraid server there was simply no way to connect to it from within windows 7 (server not visbible in "mynetwork", even mapping a drive from within explorer without succes). To only way to connect to the server was to activate a user share and to map the user share via the net use command. Mapping the array via explorer (GUI) or browsing the server through "mynetwork" still isn't possible. So basically I need to connect to the server through the windows command line and I need to activate a user share or otherwise no server. Ok it works, but I would prefer accesing the server data through teh mynetwork brwosing panel;
March 27, 201115 yr Something isn't right with your setup then. Not sure if it matters but do you have UAC enabled? If you used the default settings for Unraid server then you should be able to browse the server in "Windows" explorer by typing \\tower\. I have a disk share called media that I access by typing \\tower\media but if I want to go to a specific disk then I type \\tower\disk#\media. Do you have your shares "visible" in the Unraid configuration? I think that's the default but not sure since I have my disks set to invisible because I share my network with someone else. The only other thing I can think of is to make sure your workgroup name matches on both machines. I just use the default Workgroup.
