August 31, 20214 yr I am buying this, but am having the seller check which backplane is installed. He does not know much about it and can't seem to locate the number of the backplane for some reason. I think he simply has no idea what/where to look. I pretty much just want to be sure it is one of the SAS2 backplane/expanders and not the BPN-SAS-846A backplane. I'm not terribly familiar with them and never had one in person, so I can't tell from the pics. This is the cable that is in the picture: https://store.supermicro.com/supermicro-internal-to-external-minisas-2-ports-low-profile-cascading-85cm-cable-cbl-0352l-lp.html Edited August 31, 20214 yr by live4soccer7
August 31, 20214 yr It's an expander backplane, you can see the back of the expander chip and also the sticker for the SAS address, but it could be the SAS1 model, and those will be limited to 2TB disks, you should contact Supermicro, since the serial is visible they should be able to identify the model.
August 31, 20214 yr Author Thank you. I will try to give them a call. I am trying to compare some pics online as well.
August 31, 20214 yr Author SM said it was BPN-SAS2-846EL1, which is what I was thinking. I am also trying to confirm with the seller as I really don't want a SAS1 backplane.
September 1, 20214 yr If memory serves me correctly, the label is way up at the top near the middle. I had to use a smartphone to take a picture.
September 1, 20214 yr Author Thanks. I have compared pics and given the serial number and the build model number to supermicro and everything indicates SAS2 EL1
September 6, 20214 yr Author It is the SAS2-EL2. It was very difficult to see and even then it was a blurry image through my phone camera.
